Make sure you fit the piston rings correctly and get the right size piston and hone the cylinder enough to fit correctly and not be too loose. Check the specifications for fit in the manual.

It is a good reference to check compression with a new top end then a while later after break in. Then you will always be able to check the health of the engine. A 2 cycle engine will need top end service (rings usually) more often than a 4 cycle. It is just good to know for new HD and Columbia owners.

Yes you are right about it is a good thing to check while being fresh. Ill have to do that here this week. I also found that it wasn't getting enough oil as I was checking out the oil injection pump and someone had it set way to lean.
