Marathon Rubber Bumper Molding

Good morning from Central Il.

Hey guys and gals, I'm in need of some advice...

I am doing a remodel of a 85' EZGO Marathon (Gaser). So far it has been stripped and the vinyl wrap has been applied and is looking great.

My next step is to re-install the Rubber Trim around the dash and the wheel wells (tech name called Bumper Molding). To say the least, I am having a hell of a time. I've put lubricant on it and well as the hot water method however nothing has worked. The biggest issue isn't pulling it (it's tight) but rather it coming off the metal flange.

Has anyone had any issues with this and if so can you please help me out? I started calling service shops but they're too busy. Any help would be MUCH appreciated!!!

Post up some pics;

I bought new rubber molding for my 85, The only problem I had was in some areas the metal flange had been bent in to close to the body. You might go around it checking the gap, Maybe it's bent out or in.......

I also found fender flares you might like, they snap on the same rubber molding track and help keep it clean and look cool too. Here's a few pics

Thanks, Ill see if the metal strip is bent. If anything I am just going to take it into a shop and have them do it to avoid the frustration. I'm heading to my site this weekend so Ill take some pictures.

I’ve slid it from the end successfully before. The part below the glove boxes you can usually open up and put on. You can often do the bumper pieces that way too.

A siding tool can grab the edge and you can pull it into place. Easy.

Cool, I had to shorten the ones for the front. I think originally the factory only put them on the rear sometime after my 85 and before 88, but they clip on the same style track so it's all good
