Default Loss of Speed

Hi Guys,

I have a G9 that I've really enjoyed for a couple of years. All of a sudden, I've experienced a severe loss of speed.

Everything seems to run just as it did before, other than when I give it the throttle very far. When I mash it all the way down, it feels like the engine RPM's increase but it doesn't speed up any.

It feels like 50% speed loss to me, plus the engine RPM sounds higher than before although it's not going anywhere near as fast as it was.

I tried a univeral air filter and rejetting the carb incase the air box had got a leak somehow, but it does the same thing.

Has anyone else out there had this problem? Any suggestions as to what it could be?

Thanks in Advance.

Check clutches... Common for one weight to break, and significantly (and all-the-sudden-ly) affect performance.

Thanks cgtech! That was what it was! Wish I had've talked to you before I did a bunch of other stuff.

I pulled the clutch cover off and a weight is flopping. The clutch cover is bent.

Thanks again! Hopefully I'll fix this and won't have anymore problems.

Do you recommend just replacing the weight, or replacing all weights, or just a new clutch?

Thanks again!

Do all three, or its just a ticking time bomb for the next weight to fail. Check the bushings for slop too.

Other things to check as well that could be limiting even more top speed than you lost with the broken clutch weight is the condition of the belt, adjust throttle cables to ensure the carb is opening completely and also adjust your valves.
