Bad brushes = no start, no charge. The small green & red wires are the field wires to control charging intensity. Check the small red wire for some activity, this would not be present if the voltage regulator is bad, or a wire is broken.

CGTECH,
Thank you for the quick response. This is my first golf cart, so this is all new to me. How do I check the red wire for activity? How do I check the voltage regulator? Thank you so much for your advice.

Black test lead to battery negative, red test lead to small red wire @ starter/generator, if you get no power while engine is running, the voltage regulator is bad, or some wiring fault (i would shove a skinny paperclip into the plug red wire as a test port, so test can be done while green & red wire plugged in). The charge coil itself inside the starter generator has a 100% reliability rating in my 8.5 years of working on these things, but can easily be tested with ohm meter.

Cgtech is like some sort of mad genius when it comes to wiring. Always helped me out.

Kip_66 - It could be the starter generator brushes, it could be a voltage regulator or it could simply be a bad connection somewhere. I'm sure somebody will chime in soon. You'd probably be better off if you start a new thread for this.

Oh and $200 for a running G9 is a he77 of a deal! Nice find.

May have made a mistake on the test procedure. Probably should test at both the green wire & red wire, instead of battery negative & red wire.

I was cleaning off the engine and when I was pulling off the air filter housing the carb broke off, I fear this will be an expensive repair. What are my options?

The carb spacer is cheap at around $20.
