Default 1985 Marathon ez-go

Hi Guys,

New to posting on the forums. The best place I've found for answers. :)

I'm in the process of hopefully bringing this cart back to life. Long story short, some poe dunk punk used a narrow car engine belt as the drive belt and shredded it around the drive clutch. (clutch on the driveline side) To my dismay I was unable to untangle it and had no choice but to disassemble the clutch.

Of course I did not have a clamp for the compressed spring and when the bolt loosened enough, the retainer washers popped off.

I was able to remove the rest of the shredded belt and reassemble the drive clutch. However, the retainer washers were not placed back into the correct position because the clutch now will not open up when it spins and I can't separate the two discs when I could before. So I'm thinking its the retaining washers? I didn't know they needed to be in a certain spot. I have the manual and all it says is that when the clutch is in the apple press, note where the retainer washers are so it can be reassembled in the same spot.

Of course the manual doesn't say what spot they should be in.

I have the clutch back on and the dust cover off and the bolt and washers removed and I'm staring right at the retaining washers. (I'm using a press to keep the spring compressed) I am able to turn the retaining washers around the shaft but I'm not seeing a clear spot where their position would be better then another. Maybe I don't have the spring compressed enough?

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks! Jeff

So after removing the clutch, its clear the retaining washers set behind the teeth in a notch out and lock in place.

Asked and answered my own question.
