Drive clutch doesn't disengage from drive belt
I am new to this whole golf cart stuff. I bought one that needed to be put back together before it was usable. After reassembling the cart the drive clutch does not disengage from the belt. When starting the cart is already in"gear", sometimes I have to push the cart to let it crank over. Needless to say the dear wife is not impressed. It has what appears to be a comet clutch on it with a ribbed cover. Is it possible that the pucks inside are oriented incorrectly and the clutch is not opening far enough for the belt to be truly slack? That is what it seems to me but I am not sure what I need to do. The cart is a 79 I think. Any tips or pointers are appreciated.

Re: Drive clutch doesn't disengage from drive belt
I had the same problem. I thought the belt was worn too much letting the clutch over travel. I replaced the belt and it helped, but not for long. I ended up replacing the clutch. They can be rebuilt, but mine had a couple of cracked pieces in it, so I just replaced it.
