Might be buying a Marathon (Gas)
Hey folks, I'm new here on the EZ Go forum (I have an electric Club Car and am active over there).
I am looking at a second cart for camp (my daughter tends to always have the Club Car). I came across an '88 EZ Go Marathon that the seller tells me runs well and doesn't smoke at all. I am going to have a look tomorrow (Sunday 11/20) I realize this is an almost 30 year old cart, but he is asking $550 and from pictures, it appears to be in decent shape. Has a top, windshield and good seats, plus the body appears to be in good condition. Question is, what should I look for when I go to check this out? Any stand out items that could be a cause for concern that I might miss on a casual inspection? I've never had a gas cart and I'm thinking $550 isn't such a bad deal.... Let me know what you think. thanks! |

If it runs, and looks good, I would jump on it.

Re: Might be buying a Marathon (Gas)
Keep in mind the '88 is a one-year cart, it was the only year of the "High Output" 2pg ... Still 244cc, but a larger Carb and much free-er flowing exhaust - parts are VERY hard to find if they are the specific ones IE mounts for anything, starter, etc as well as headpipe (prone to getting beat-up and/or rotted out) and muffler - definitely a great 2-stroke cart, it will run circles around a standard G1 Yami as well as 2 and 4-stroke EZGO's that aren't modified - it's a good cart. Pull the oiler and run 128:1 premix, burn that muffler out, get a shorter belt and seriously - Hang On. Will it run 30+ w/a Yamaha thats cranked down, No. Will it beat it off the line and up the hill every time - Yes. I'll drive to Cinci and buy it if You don't want it, LOL

Worth it for sure. Get rid of the oil injection, and the governor. Then it will be perfect.

^^I'll probably need some help figuring the oil injection and governor out, but I'm sure I can find threads here for that.
