1980 Marathon Governor?
Hi all! Brand new to golf carts, and I just recently got my new to me 1980 running. One thing I noticed is there seems to be some sort of governor system that is currently disconnected, and I want to know how it's supposed to work, if I need it, etc.
It seems there is some sort of a lever arm that is possibly actuated by something on the clutch on the transaxle which in turn moves a cable that is somehow supposed to be attached to the throttle linkage at the carburetor. Is that the basic operation? Or, does the throttle move the linkage arm which "stops" the throttle once the arm hits the clutch? Just trying to make sense of it and get it all figured out being brand new to these things. Thanks! |

Re: 1980 Marathon Governor?
As the clutch expands at speed, it pushes the lever, which pulls a cable. That cable pulls the carburetor closed limiting the cart to 12mph.. You don't need it. Most people get rid of it.

Ok, that makes sense. Thanks! I clocked mine today at 19 MPH with GPS cruising around with the fresh engine. Not too shabby!
