G14 intermittent spark
96 g14. Turns over great spots and sputters every once in awhile. Pull plug wire and put a hei tester plug in get a weak spark once every 15-30 revolutions. Getting battery voltage at orange and red/white wires while cranking. What should resistance be for primary and secondary in the coil? Is there a way to test the coil any more? or is there a way to check the ignitor?

Re: G14 intermittent spark
Coil test per manual. Primary coil test..- volt meter lead on spade that orange wire led goes to/ + volt meter lead on spade r/w lead goes to, should read 2.6ohms+/-20percent at 68 degree's. Secondary test..- +volt meter lead on r/w spade, negative volt meter lead at coil wire with spark plug cap removed, ( it unscrews counterclockwise) should read 11.9ohms+/- 20 percent at 68 degree's. Cut a small section of the coil wire ( to get a nice clean end with a nice inner coil wire showing) and screw in the cap, and see what you have for spark. Also, Yamaha "pigtailed" a small 18 gauge wire on the negative battery cable eye end at the starter/generator post. Cut back the electrical tape and put your own "eye let" end on the end of it. Reattatch it to the starter stud along with the negative battery cable and test spark again. Sorry, there is no test on the ignitor, if everything else check good...new ignitor is needed. If you didn't understand this....blame it on "Black Velvet and Pepsi"! good luck

Re: G14 intermittent spark
Getting 3.2 ohms across the orange and red/white at 61 degrees. And open for the secondary guess its the coil. Thanks smallblock. It looks like the coil has been replaced before with an aftermarket are the OEM coils better it seams odd that it needs a coil again

Re: G14 intermittent spark
Got the new coil on starts up now but takes some cranking before it takes off and it smokes quite a bit once it starts going you can take your foot off and get back on it and it takes off without hesitation. but if you come to a stop again it takes at least 5 seconds of cranking before it takes off. Verified spark is strong right when you hit the pedal what could cause the hesitation?

Re: G14 intermittent spark
Coil has been swapped to a new OEM coil. Now it just takes a while to take off I'll pull the carb off and clean/blow it out
