Question wont start when ignition wire is hooked up

Hello,
i just bought a club car gas burner. It is a engine that will idle not one you have to press gas to start. The guy that had it installed a 420 cc engine and hadn't wired up key or fuel pump so i installed a new key switch and hooked it up the way switch said to. It will turn over but wont start. But will start if i have ignition wire unhooked. But i cant kill it like that. Is there something i am missing or what do i need to do?? Thanks in advance

Most all clones (and the OE engine in that Club Car) have a magneto type ignition. It uses the magnet spinning past on the flywheel to produce the electricity it fires the spark with. The small wire off of that ignition coil is a "kill" wire. It's function is to direct the spark to ground and shut the engine down when called for. That "ignition wire" can't be hooked up with the starter /solenoid system and function.

You didn’t get a club car switch did you?

The original key switch has multiple contacts and the Off position is connected to ground and grounds the kill circuit for the ignition.

The easiest way for you would be to install a 5 pin relay with the NC pin on the relay connected to the kill circuit. The common pin connected to frame ground. Power for the relay can come from the solenoid output post (white wire connected to + on the starter)
Or can come from the key switch On position.

Nah I bought a 4 pin from autozone. So I will go buy a 5 pin if that’s what I need. Thanks for the help
