Default 1997 G16a won't turn off

Prior to the engine not turning off issue, occasionally when I would press the accelerator, the engine wouldn't start and solenoid would click. After a few tries it would fire up. Finally it got to where it wouldn't turn off. I pulled plug wire to turn off. Checked battery and it was almost dead. Recharged battery and now I get a strong arc when I try to reconnect the battery cables. Anyone have any suggestions?

Microswitch triggered by the pedal is probably bad. I’d check that first. Next would be a welded solenoid.

Would you happen to have the microswitch part number? Mine is worn off.

First, you can try for free to check the pedal switch before ordering a new one:

Concerning the fact the engine does not stop even with the key off, I had the very same trouble. I do not really know how it was solved as I had to do the following at the same time:
  1. new voltage regulator
  2. new TCI
...and it solved the engine not stopping running.

This being said, I do not like much you have an arc when connecting back the battery!

You can check for your exact cart at:
https://www.shopyamaha.com/parts-cat...-motor-company

On G16-A, it should be JF7-82817-22-00 (±63.75$)

Try unplugging the voltage regulator (finned aluminum box next to solenoid), I have seen a failed voltage regulator somehow keep the solenoid engaged.

Sorry for the delay and I really do appreciate everyones responses. Would all the situations y'all have mentioned possibly cause an arc when I try to attach the battery cables?

For sure. Because the starter is trying to run immediately when you connect power.

The switch under the accelerator was the culprit. Thanks for the help.
