Default Remounting engine, trick to align?

Good day!

Is there a procedure (or trick) to align the two sheaves when remounting the engine?

What parts (and which side) must be aligned?

Nothing in the maintenance manual on this matter and I do not want to kill a belt if I can avoid...

Thanks

I align the engine and the secondary with the belt in place. You can tell how you're doing by how the belt lays in the primary. I just did this yesterday.

You just have to sort of eyeball it. The inner sheave of the primary is static, as is the outer sheave of the secondary. So that is what I go by

I use a 2 x 4 cut as long as will fit in the engine compartment. With it going past the pulleys it is a lot easier to see any misalignment issues bearing in mind which side of the sheaves is in the fixed position.

Well, with the stock configuration and 4 bolts in round holes, there's not a lot of wiggle room. Like CP said, I eyeballed how the belt laid in the primary.

With the VC 460 in the G14 and even more so with the snowmobile engine in the harley cart I needed a way to be more accurate in alignment. After some experimentation the board trick worked the best.
