Re: G9A Governor Bypass, still no top speed increase
Lot of people have put a cheap spring in the secondary and had top speed cut, then put a different torque spring in to fix it. If you get one from CPP or plowmans/etc better kind of place it should work right, or call them and ask what the deal is. Only other issue I heard of is if the governor is still on and it does not get enough rpm it might not shift all the way.

Re: G9A Governor Bypass, still no top speed increase
I ran the throttle straight from the pedal to the carb, so the governor should be bypassed from what I read.
Engine does not seem to wind up quite as much as I think it should, never (even in neutral) have I heard the electronic box cut the motor out at high rpm. Motor burns a little oil, so there may be something going on in the top end. Will have to search my email and see where the spring came from, maybe put the original back in and see what it does. Also, the replacement chinese carb may be affecting the performance some. With the clone upgrade coming sometime in the next year I may just need to quit my complaining and enjoy the ride. By the way, got the boat running, was out for about an hour. Stopped by the neighbors dock (he had some females out on the dock fishing with him) said hello, hung out for a few minutes, and then....motor no go. Used the trolling motor to get home, took bowl off carb and the accelerator pump had broken apart and was blocking the float so it would not allow any fuel in the carb. Why do those things always happen when good looking girls are around? |

Re: G9A Governor Bypass, still no top speed increase
Lol, Murphy's Law right? If its an outboard I always go through the entire fuel system, though you never know when something might let go like that. Maybe the motor liked her lol. I was out on a 'toon and that was it my boat is still in storage all covered up. Just a little 85hp I run and don't even have time to get out; need to get the cart and my tiller done first. That boat is a bayliner/force, crappy boat and motor. I put a transom in the boat and started running it, never did nothing to the motor but clean the carbs and check the impeller. The guy had put a new block in it once and it has run like new every time I started it. I've done less to that boat than any other I don't get it lol. It does stink at idle only thing I don't like about it. Yeah I did get it for 300 and painted the motor and transom, rubbed it all out, rebuilt some of the seats and floor. Was going to sell it and everyone said it looked so nice.... Sure cut the profit margin down on it, now you can't give a boat away, but it works ok for my use. I managed 43gps out of it with a SS prop so its faster than my cart.
Far as your cart the stock carb hardly does anything the last 1/3 of opening, so I always figured it flowed plenty. Mine has little power on top it takes a while to get wound up. If you hit the limiter you would have to change the ignition to get more. One guy told me you can set the valve lash larger for the exhaust I think he said and it might rev a little more. Otherwise they set them pretty tight. I did hog the airbox and rejet mine that helped but not much. The clone is even worse (16hp not 13). The 13 seems to rev a little more. So that is why I'm going to try milling the head and advancing the timing, if I ever get to the cart. Clone has piles of power though I was running the one I put in this weekend, so why didn't I take some video I don't know doh. |

Some video would be nice of that clone...got a new carb off craigs, forty bucks and I got a carb, spare fuel pump and a steering cable for my dads boat.
The torque spring came from some random place I don't remember, not CPP or Plowmans. May have to order one of those and see what it does. Do you think the clone needs a torque spring or no? |

Re: G9A Governor Bypass, still no top speed increase
This is the only video I have really, need to take some more. Worked on it last weekend and lifted it a little more fixed some detail stuff. Still have to wire a relay to kill the engine. Here he hit the gas while I was turning the camera on, but I floored it right away about when his rear bumper was at my front bumper. We were even when he hit it. He let off about at that fence post so did I.
Most people take the torque spring out with a big block you don't need it with the extra power. This cart I rebuilt the clutches with new sheaves, its about new and all stock except the secondary has a cut sheave. It does give a lower gear initially going to do mine too. It takes about 2 seconds for this to get shift rpm it runs here, even with 2 guys, in fact its faster with more load on it like a hill or two people. |

Re: G9A Governor Bypass, still no top speed increase
Ok, Cool. Thanks alot Sho, you really save me alot of time and head scratching wondering whats going on. I'll leave it how it is until I put a clone in late this year or early next, and then put in a new spring when I have it all torn apart.
Too hot down here to do anything work wise outside until probably October anyway! I'm going to put the boat in the Brazos river and marinate. |

Re: G9A Governor Bypass, still no top speed increase
I plan on putting a clone in mine this summer, would have started on it now but projects got piled on me as usual. Going to do the cut sheave and try to get a yamaha spring for the secondary later, with stock primary. The other one I did works great with the cut sheave and nothing else. It will gain more rpm once you hit 10+mph or so now, not sure why it didn't do that last year. I think its more the carb it will not make full power until its all the way warmed up so past half throttle is no gain...unless you get going faster then it will. When you run it for a few minutes then it kicks it harder at low speeds. But I can ride it nearly a quarter mile before it runs right if its say 60F out. I had it jetted richer and it was fine but then it misses at about 1/8-1/4 throttle because it was too rich. I plan to get a different carb for it. Others don't seem to have this problem or don't notice it, not sure.
