Ride quality with HD leaf springs??
I recently purchased a 2003 club car IR cart. I put fairway alloy hazard 12 inch wheels with low profile tires. Although the dealer told me I would have no issues with tire rubs, I am having tire rub issues on front and back at times. I assume that it is just a case of worn out leaf springs. My questions: 1. If I add HD leaf springs to front and back, will they raise the ride height enough to solve tire rub issues? 2. Maybe more importantly, how rough will it make the cart ride? We use our cart for golfing three to four days a week and don't want to get beat to death on the course? 3. Would HD springs on front and rear be a better option than helper leafs?
I have searched lots of posts, but decided to ask directly, to get more opinions and advice. Thanks in advance. KTJx2= Dad & Ty |

Re: Ride quality with HD leaf springs??
Welcome to BGW.
I have a lot of experience in this and have found the best medium to be to buy heavy duty springs and modify them. This will ditch the sag but not make it ride like a tank. I have the best combination is buying springs with part number SPN-1008 like what is found from the sponsor EverythingCarts http://www.everythingcarts.com/p-201...af-spring.aspx So get them, use a big pair of pliers to remove the spring clamps, on each end, use a clamp to hold the pack together, remove the bolt hold everything together, remove the middle leaf, reassemble, cut off the access to the for the assembly bolt to be flush with the nut and mount up. So you only have the main spring and a helper spring. Here you can see the spring as orignially installed on my cart. And then you can see the after. I have done this for about 30 cart owners now and they seem happy. |

Re: Ride quality with HD leaf springs??
I find HD multi leaf springs can be way too stiff and instead of buying them I go to spring shop or large auto parts store and order one leaf same thickness and width for each side 2" shorter on each end than single leaf and plus new center bolts and install with a good improvement in ride. This is far cheaper than HD springs and normally available locally?

Re: Ride quality with HD leaf springs??
Good Idea OLD MEC, the other other thing to consider is that when take the route I did, you can use the springs you removed as add-a-leafs for another cart. So really one set does two carts.
