Thanks for all your advices. I tore the engine down again, got some valve lapping compound and lapped the valves. Thanks for your advice on that sonmtn. was a fairly simple procedure and worth the time when the engine is apart. I Made sure all ring gaps were in the right position and re-assembled the head. I also removed the flywheel to make sure it was in the right position. I Thought it could of slipped since the keyway isn't too deep on the shaft. Got everything all put back together and back in the cart. after a few minutes of getting gas into the carb., she fired up. I haven't checked the compression yet, but will in the morning. I think just a little more adjusting of the throttle cable and governor, should be all set to go.
Thanks again all,, I will post later on the compression.

compression, was about 100, not sure if my gauge is very accurate, was just a cheap one from a discount store, but cart seems to be running pretty smooth, just starts a little hard when cold.
Daytriper, what do you need for one of those engines? I can ask the guy, problem might be shipping, I am in Maine.

I had low compression on a fe350 Kawasaki with auto compression release, ACR. Would not start. Turned out ACR mechanism was worn and would not function to allow full compression after starting. I disabled the ACR by cutting off the tang that hits the cam lobe. Now it has full compression all the time and runs good. Have pics available if interested.

A KF82 and a key start FE350 w/ACR are 2 completely different engines!!

With brand new rings you will have low compression until the rings are broken in. I always squirt a ring of 20w-50 oil all the way around the top of the piston when I rebuild small engines. It stays in place better and keeps the rings well lubed and prevents the escape of compression gases past the rings during the initial start.

Didn't even notice this is a 10 year old thread...

This may be a 10 year old forum but I just picked up a 1988 club car DS gas that the previous owner apparently thought was amphibious so I am in the process of cleaning and going over the engine. This post has helped since I had a stuck intake valve
