running a parallel circuit
Has anyone experimented with running a parallel circuit with solenoids , and the stock controller that would give the motor full battery power when activated? The stock controller is limited to around 250 amp and can smoothly increase the amp from zero to that point. I thinking that I could run a set of solenoids that sent additional amps when you wanted a burst for short runs.

Re: running a parallel circuit
it apears that running a solenoid between the B- and M- would do this

Re: running a parallel circuit
Really,, non of you speed freaks or gear heads have tried to put a solenoid between the m- and b-, thus bypassing the variable amp function of the stock controller, to provide full battery juice to the motor?? I’m sure you can only run it for short times , for that burst of passing speed ,without overheating the motor but it’s looking like I’m just going to have to give it a try and hope I don’t burn or blow up a good motor or myself in the process.

Re: running a parallel circuit
I don't think anyone has done it or is comfortable saying do it and then
you have a fried controler from back amps. Let us know the results if you try. I am not a sparkler so its just 2 cents. |

Re: running a parallel circuit
Greg, that was on a resister cart, a lot fewer ""electronics""
would that make a difference? |

Re: running a parallel circuit
Well not sure, but if he used a solenoid that would break the controller line and make the bypass line maybe not.
It was just something for him to see, that someone else did this type of circuit, Im not sure the other one works either. |

Re: running a parallel circuit
thanks for reading and posting something. I was thinking of using a wench type solenoid. it has 4 big posts , two are n/c and two are n/o. that way it would take the controler out of line when the full bypass took place. I'm not adding voltage, just giving it the full 48 volts.

Re: running a parallel circuit
I would definitely sprinkle a bunch of fuses in your circuit, no matter what the cost, and a disconnect switch. Post your results I'm curious may not see much speed gain but hill climbing may improve.
and yes the voltage is different but they both are bypassing which is what you asked. good luck |

Re: running a parallel circuit
You should probably post this in the Extreme DC section.
Sounds interesting. I did a search over there, this thread comes the closest to what you're talking about: http://www.buggiesgonewild.com/extre...ler-boost.html I was thinking of something similar, but with a microswitch at the pedal; full throttle jumps in an extra 8v, and bypasses the controller. But I'll probably just go with a Plum Quick motor, for reliability reasons. Too many "non-mechanically sympathetic" people drive my cart... |
