Default 1994 CC DS controller sparking, overheating

Hello. I have a 1994 Club Car DS with controller, 36v. Last night my boys came in saying they noticed smoke from underneath as the cart stopped running. Very noticable burning smell. When you press on the accelerator the controller pops and smokes. Tried to roll it and it still did the same. Disconnected the batteries so could roll it. Batteries appeared to have boiled over. My boys told me it stopped running earlier in the day but they noticed a couple of wires had come off of their connection on the F/R switch and they replaced them and it ran fine; not sure if they got them crossed or not, not sure if that would be the cause.
Any ideas? Thanks!

well, ones things certain the controller is shot, if its sparking and getting hot its done so unless they crossed some wires only they know but you need to start with controller................................

Yes this will finally prompt me to do some of the upgrades I have thought about but had left undone. Nothing like necessity to get you moving.

Is there a wiring diagram for that switch so i know that the wires are hooked up properly so I don't burn out a new controller if that was the cause?
