Default Battery Cables

First off I really love reading all the info in the BGW forums. If this has been answered already I apologize. My CC is stock with a speed code 4, lift and bigger tires, it runs around 19-20mph. The question is should i change the battery cables to a bigger cable, or leave them stock? I do not know if going bigger would help all the electrical components live longer. Thanks for your time!

If your cables are over 5/6 years old, yes i would change them,if they are stock cables they are 6ga, and 4ga helps carry the load on the high amps better, it is good to change your cables when you put a new set of batteries in, if your old cables have open lugs on the cables and you can see the cable wire where they are crimped yes, use no less than 4ga is good for your use, 2ga if you go to 72 volts

Thanks for asking this question Billy. Been kinda wondering it myself. Are you going to make your own or buy some. I've been looking around and they seem kind of expensive so if you find a good deal please let me know where.

72v is good with 4 gauge cables as the amps are half of what they were at 36v and still much less then the amps at 48v.

And twice the volts, so I would not use 4ga on 72 volts just so there is no heat, and alot of people i know are putting 600 - 700 amp controllers in there cart with 72 volts

I installed new batteries and 2/0 welding cables for my cart. I'm getting 2mph faster and it feels like it has more power. Not sure if it was one or the other or both.

It's amps that determine wire gauge, not the volts. For a 700 amp controller I'd use AT LEAST 2 gauge if not 0 gauge.

Yeah the AMPS are the cable killers, that why i like to run 2 ga on the big motors and 700amp controllers,
