Oh, and I bought them from an authorized CC dealer.

Re: PowerDrive 3 charging temp high
I've seen bad heatsinks in a PD3 cause your exact same symptom. I understand you may have bought the parts from an authorized dealer but I'll be the first to tell you that doesn't mean a thing. Not all dealers are created equally. I can honestly tell you that.

Re: PowerDrive 3 charging temp high
I hear ya, I'm just wondering how many different "trys" at fixing this old charger I should make. I'm thinking that $300 Thunderbull on ebay/Amzn is looking pretty good right about now having already spent $50 trying to make this one work. Not to mention the time I have spent. This is the second time this particular "dealer" has wasted my time and money. I'm guessing you know who they are based on your proximity. Not sure if you have any history with them or not.

Re: PowerDrive 3 charging temp high
For anyone who was reading this posting, David was right on the money. New heat sinks and I am back in business. And to think I was going to drop $300+ on an aftermarket charger...

Re: PowerDrive 3 charging temp high
Related to the high temp of operation on theses chargers, I keep mine on a shelf when is running and was concerned as well about the heat.
I used one of these $15 surge protectors with master/controlled outlets: I plugged the charger on the master and an old fan on the controlled so anytime the charger is running the fan will come on and cool the charger. I checked the other day after 3 hours running and the charger was cold, plus it is a good idea to have it on a surge protector anyway. |
