96 Club Car - Wont move

This sounds exactly like my problem. I bought a used controller here but that didn't fix it. Let me know if you want my extra one.

have you tried putting that meter away and going old school on this cart?? if not it demands you do....never ever trust that meter 100% on any cart but really on yours........there are things about a 96 C.C. 48 volt that well require more then proper meter readings....i really mean that...............96 and 97 were experiments so to speak, in all my years i have seen a total of 2 pots go bad on a 96 and i have had my hands on 100,s of 96,s thats just me thought.....keep in mind even a clicking solenoid giveing good meter readings can be bad......start by making certain your charger still works when plugged into cart and also jack the rear up and jump the solenoid see what cart does..........................

When the shadowman has more time he will tell you that your readings are way out of range. Provided the battery in the meter is good and you are getting good readings.
Potentiometers do wear out over time. More commonly, they are subject to water damage.

Without a good volt meter anyone in this business would be out of a job. Just about every year cc is an experiment in some way or another but without a basic troubleshooting tool like a meter we would just be parts changers. Those potentiometers have 6 different ohm readings from 900k-5570k so if you measure outside of those parameters well its time for a new resistor set or whole new potentiometer

Those resistance numbers are way too high.

From the manual:

Continuously Variable Potentiometer Models:
The speed control circuit consists of a solid state three-wire potentiometer. With the car in forward, the potentiometer resistance varies from approximately 0 to 300 ohms with the accelerator pedal up (at rest position) to approximately 5500 ohms with pedal fully depressed (for full-speed operation, resistance must be above 4600 ohms and below 7000 ohms). When the vehicle is put into reverse, a limit switch is engaged that brings an additional resistor into the circuit at the F&R limit switch No. 3. This reduces vehicle top speed in reverse to half of forward top speed.

How are they too high? Every club car model with potentiometer or mcor has either a 0-5k or 5-0k throttle which means the ohm readings are between those values for the most part.
From the manual...
With multimeter set for 20k ohms connect black lead of multimeter to purple wire and red probe to yellow wire terminal. Depress the accelerator pedal until wiper move able contact is on third stationary contact. Multimeter should register approximately 565 ohms. Measure resistance while depressing the accelerator pedal. The measured resistance should increase incrementally in six steps:
1st step 910 ohms
2nd step 1660 ohms
3rd step 2570 ohms
4th step 3570 ohms
5th step 4570 ohms
6th step 5570 ohms

Even if those numbers aren't exactly because they will differ a little bit, the throttle will work if you are getting ohm reading between 1-7k. The controller is not calibrated for higher resistance then that

It does have the 3 pin connector from the pot, the yellow and purple, before i measured them at the controller, this time i opened the connector and measured 400 ohms with the pedal up and the same bouncing around 14-16k with the pedal all the way down.

On the controller this time it went from 52v(pedal up) to 47v(pedal down)

Are those pot numbers out of tolerance? And would that extra resistance cause the cart to not move?

He doesn't have a multi step, he has a cvp. Besides, his readings of 14-16k are well above 7!!!

sorry guys didn,t want to ruffle your feathers AGAIN about your meter, i,ll say this.....this place hasn,t changed one tiny bit, ...never did i say you shouldn,t have a meter but if you put all your faith into what that meter tells you your gonna waste a ton of time for nothing there are other ways of finding out if a part is bad or out of sinc without being a parts changer, you can have every tool, meter, book and the kitchen sink but that dosn,t make you a mechanic either......its something else and everyone dosn,t have it so they think a better tool will give it to them ....only one making any money here is the snap on dude.........talk to ya in 6 weeks...........................

I have a similar problem. My cart has lost forward, but reverse works fine.
