Intermittent battery charger actions
When I plug in my 48V 2000 Club Car, the charger pops up to 15 for about a second then drops to 0, a second later it jumps back to 15, holds for a second then drops to 0 again. It is then finished.
The cart also acts differently. Sometime I will pull from the garage, start forward and, when I put my foot down, the power meter drops right to the red end. Two blocks and the cart is stuttering and I'm lucky to get home. Plug in the charger and it is as described in the first paragraph. The next day, I pull the cart out and it runs normal with the power meter dropping slightly but staying in the green. I have yet to catch the charger actually running, but how can I go from what seems to be low charge to normal in 12 hours. I'm leaving the charger plugged into the cart except when I am able to use it. The batteries are powertron 6V and 15 months old. All read acceptable voltage and the hygrometer? shows them as ok. The batteries have never fully discharged or run low on water. Cables are good and not corroded. The reverse/forward switch was replaced about three months ago. |

Re: Intermittent battery charger actions
Sounds like a bad battery in the pack.
I would pull over and measure the voltage of each battery when the cart starts "stuttering". |

Re: Intermittent battery charger actions
It has 8 6V batteries. The problem is--in the last three days I drove it twice. Once it stuttered right away, the next time it ran like nothing was wrong. I'm beginning to think it is haunted. I'll recheck voltage after my next fight with it.

Re: Intermittent battery charger actions
Follow up. All batteries read above 8V except for one at 7.89V. Across all batteries the reading is 49.3V. Can a battery read good and fail under load?

. . . yes . . . a battery can also read "good", and have a bad cell or two . . check the specific gravity of the cells also . . .

Re: Intermittent battery charger actions
Apparently I don't know how to check batteries. Shop said all batteries are good. Just need a new OBC (on board computer). $450! Thank to everyone for all your help and suggestions.
