Default Re: LED Light Bar on Golf Carts!

A lot of good information here and in this forum. I bought my first cart, green 2001 gas EZGO, 2 weeks ago to use at the campground. My AllSports drop axle lift kit came today and a light bar is due early next week. It's a 126 watt bar with 43 3 watt diodes. The LEDs are suppose to be Crees, I'll check that out when it gets here. The cart already has headlights, so I'm replacing the 889 halogen bulbs with green LED bulbs.
Cree is probably one of the better known manufacturers, but there are others who make them just as good. In the picture, the yellow area under the quarter, there are 100 1 watt LEDs. It takes 36vdc at 3 amps to run it. The other picture shows it on my garage. That LED chip was $7.35 from China via eBay. So there are good things for cheap.

cree, Inc. is a multinational manufacturer of semiconductor light-emitting diode (LED) materials and devices, with its headquarters in Durham, North Carolina. Most of its products are based on silicon carbide.

Cree was formed in 1987 by researchers from North Carolina State University.

In 2005, Cree opened a subsidiary, Cree Asia-Pacific Ltd., in Hong Kong.[3][4] In March 2007, Cree acquired Cotco Luminant Device Ltd of Hong Kong, a supplier of high brightness LEDs in China, for $200 million.[5] In 2009, Cree announced an agreement to purchase a 592,000-square-foot (55,000 m2) facility in Huizhou, Guangdong Province, China, Cree’s first chip production facility outside of North America.[6] Also in 2009, Cree announced an expansion at its Durham plant.[7]

On February 8, 2012, Cree announced the XLamp XT-E, which they said delivers twice as much light for the same price as older LEDs.[8] In October 2013, Cree's first consumer products, two household LED bulbs qualified for Energy Star rating by the United States Environmental Protection Agency.[9]

Competing companies in the LED industry include Bridgelux, Inc, Nichia Corporation, Osram Opto Semiconductors, General Electric, and Philips Lumileds Lighting Company. Cree has 10% of the North American market

Like I said earlier, Cree LEDs are good, but I know a little bit about them. I prefer NICHIA, based in Japan, they have been in business since 1956. One of the first to mass produce LEDs. The company that I work for, Daktronics, buys about 10 million LEDs every 3 to 4 weeks. A 14' X 24' video display would use about 1.5 million LEDS. Goin off subject here....

I've got two of these mounted on the back of my ST350. They kick in when I go into reverse. They are bright!
I put them on about 2 years ago. I swapped my brake pedal out for brake-light switching style and didn't think anything of it. Well, we at a benefit with the cart and tried to load it on the trailer in the dark. Couldn't see anything without trying to hold the brake lights on. Karen had to stand next to the trailer with a small flashlight so I could see the sides of the trailer while backing on. I found mine on Amazon for $30/pair.

I just put these on too. Check it out. Pic of bumper shows they are hidden underneath. Also blacked out all my hardware.

Just finished building this last night. 20" combo and two 4" spots on the sides. Off for some paint today. Should be wired up by the weekend.

I have two of these on the back of our cart. Very bright.
They're wired into the reverse switch so we can see where we're going when putting the cart on the box trailer in the dark.
