Default backwords Battery

Has anyone ever came across this issue. I purchased a 97 DCS that wasnt working for $500. body is in great shape and frame has no rust at all. I was trying to charge each battery seperatly to see if i could get the pack voltage up enough to test things out. It kept saying reverse voltage on my charger on one battery, checked it with my DVM and i was correct, the pos side is neg and the neg side is pos. I do know the guy that i bought it from had no charger and he had an electric cord wired direct to the batteries, Not sure if he put 110v AC to the batteries or not ( and if that would even cause this issue) should i just turn the battery around for now, the batteries are getting replaces anyways with 8v batteries

I had a 12 volt lawnmower battery that was discharged and I accidentally connected the charger to it reverse polarity and indeed it did charge it backwards. I don't remember if it recharged correct polarity or not. Since you have figured out they are backwards polarity, discharge them totally and see if they would recharge the correct polarity. They are probably ruined.
