The gauge wire is 16 I believe which is what they provide from the cart audio place.

It's a gas cart.

I was reading 5-8 volts across the terminal when cranking the stereo with all 4 speakers and pressing the gas pedal.

Stereo is grounded to the negative terminal.

I don't have a problem putting in a deep cycle (if this corrects the issue). Stinks looking like a turd when your high $$$$$ golf cart with loud stereo cuts out all the time.

what does the battery read with everything "off"- just sitting ?

with the radio off and starting ?

with radio off and while running ?

With the battery off... it reads 12.3-12.5 or so

I did not check the other ways but I can tonight.

if it still drops that many volts from just the cart then that might point towards a battery/generator problem. If the volts don't drop much it will point more towards radio/wiring issue.

My workhorse did the same thing and I have a deep cycle battery.
I ran 12 gauge wire from the battery both pos. and neg. with a inline fuse.
That fixed mine.

agree 16g wire isnt appropriate for this obviously its the first thing you need to do. run another 16g wire for +/- and see if that corrects the issue. (if you dont have larger gauge wire) - I dont care what "the cart people said" they also didnt expect you to be running a rodney dangerfield cart I assume.

also the deep cycle isnt "fixing anything" but if you did run your battery below 9v you likely ruined it .. so that is why you see problems with crazy low volts at cranking. remember that you are shorting the battery at this time so voltage reading during a crank isnt a tell all.

like another post said read your battery after sitting all day if its dropping charge sitting its toast - recycle it and buy a deep cycle that you can run down with out damage.

Yep,I wouldnt use less than 14ga on a radio, and bigger is better(12ga).Have the battery load tested properly,it sounds like its junk, and auto-zone is likely using a low-quality tester.Any 12v.battery that loads below 10.5 volts at half its rated cca is shot, and a 400cca battery is kinda small to start with.I use 625cca or higher in every cart i do,reguardless of if its stock or not.I would definitely go with a deep-cycle if you plan on alot of radio use without driving.Hope this helps.

With everything turned off and cart has been idle for many hours, it reads 12.66 volts.

With radio off and starting, it reads 11.35-11.4 (average of multi attempts)

With radio off and running, it was around 15.3 volts.

With radio on (cranked) and just 2 front speakers, battery reads 12.55 volts.

With radio on (cranked) and 2 front speakers while starting, it reads 11.3-11.5

With radio on (cranked) and running, it was around 15.44

With radio on (cranked) and all 4 speakers, battery reads 12.55

With radio on (cranked) and all 4 speakers and while staring, reads 11.45

With radio on (cranked) and all 4 speakers and while running, battery reads 14.45

Battery seems good. I notice it cuts out more so with bassier songs. I guess a capacitor is the way to go??? And perhaps run thicker wire??
