Default Yamaha G14 primary clutch

The primary clutch on my g14 is catching as soon as the starter engages. I did forget to put a pump of grease in it this spring. I use the cart at my camp. Any ideas on what it may be. Just want to know what tools to bring with me. Thanks!

I would grease it first then grab it and if you can move it make sure it is all the way out . Mine locked up and cart would start to go forward as soon as it started. I pulled the cover and found a weight had broken . Might be your problem if grease doesn't do any good. Only way to find out is pull the cover. Don't remember what size the bolts are on the cover . You can pull the cover while on cart but if a weight is broken then you will have to pull the clutch to fix it .

Sometimes the clutch weights become worn and will stick in place. Light oiling around the shafts and rollers, plus pulling on the clutch as Bama suggests. Also check the front left engine mount and tension cable.

I'm pretty sure my tension cable is gone. Where can I get a new one. Or is there a redneck replacement? I'll check the clutch when I get to camp tonight.

Yea there is a redneck replacement if you can make one As I did per Mike Mac's photos. Mine was missing . Or you can buy a new cable version from one of the sponsors. Here is what Mike made and I copied . First one is a factory one .

My cable has no tension on it. Motor mount looks a little worn. How much tension should be on the cable?

I would check your motor mounts good . If the rubber is cracked across like one of mine was replace it or any that is about to break. The tensioner should have just a very small amount of play. Not sure how to describe it . Even the one I made has a little wiggle to it . All the tensioner does is stop the motor from going back toward the rear under torgue thus stopping the belt from becoming too loose. A loose belt won't let the clutches engage like they suppose to .

Good place for a front motor mount? That's got to be the problem.
