G1 loses power after warmup?
Seems to have plenty of power when cool, but after 1/4 to 1/2 mile when u stop and take off again it gets real bad boggy. Once you get it reved back up it runs decent again. Is engine getting to hot? BBQ'd muffler, seems to run a little cooler now, but still boggy after warmup. Any ideas?

Re: G1 loses power after warmup?
Clean the fan and cooling fins? Could need a rebuild as well unless this was a sudden condition. Usually with 2 strokes the cylinder grows with heat and you lose compression. They are much more sensitive to this than a 4 stroke. Could also be a crank seal on the way out check for oil seeping out of them.

Re: G1 loses power after warmup?
Thanks for the info. I was afraid that might be one of the replies. Not a big deal I guess. Can U replace the 2stroke with a 4stroke or is there an issue with electronics, mounting, linkages, etc.? Might try going that way.

Re: G1 loses power after warmup?
The biggest problem with swapping in a 4 stroke is losing reverse. The G1 Trans has no reverse gear in it. The motor spins backwards. A 4 stoke is not capable of doing that. You should fix the motor that's in there now. The parts aren't that expensive and they are easy to work on.

Re: G1 loses power after warmup?
I went with a 4 stroke. Put an 8hp Industrial briggs in it. Then I drilled holes in the stock breather housing too open it up and custom made an exhaust using a motorcycle muffler and the cart actually runs faster (Between 25-28mph) and pulls on hills better than the 2 stroke did.
Of course as said, I did lose reverse and just have to watch when I am turning or parking. I do like the 4 stroke much better. |

Re: G1 loses power after warmup?
Gotta have reverse for what I use this thing for.Talked to an old 2 stroke fan yesterday, gave me a couple other hints to try 1st. Gonna try them after it quits raining, I'll post results when I get them. Thanks guys!

Re: G1 loses power after warmup?
If you go the rebuild route, I would replace the crank seals at the same time. I just did all of this a couple weeks ago and it was super easy and actually pretty fun. If you have any questions let me know while it is all still fresh in my mind.

Re: G1 loses power after warmup?
G1 will outrun any stock 4 stroke cart with none or a few small tweaks, if it runs good. A 2 stroke needs a good bore so it keeps compression, nothing like a new bore....cut the head, advance the timing a little, check the clutches, you will be rolling. I had one that did way over 30 on stock tires, giant powerslides in grass and gravel it would even smoke the tire with the brake on when on pavement.
