Club Car DS gas generator failure
Replace two generators in the past month both lasted About two hours. Do not understand why the brushes are flying out of this thing can it be starting and charging at the same time ? Replace the voltage regulator to last time still didn't work. I am kind of blaming the cheap parts on eBay, Maybe I should try OEM

Re: Club Car DS gas generator failure
are you over revving the engine above governed speeds? The Chinese fecal matter generators on Ebay will NOT tolerate high rpm! I confess,I use them on stock carts all the time with no issues,however...you spin that b*tch over governed rpm specs IT WILL explode the commutator.

Re: Club Car DS gas generator failure
I don't believe I'm over revving it too bad. The stock one failed because the Armature was. worn out.

Re: Club Car DS gas generator failure
I recommend the OEM starter generator, but let's take a step back and see if we can identify any underlying issues. Have you checked your battery voltage while the engine was running? Often, a voltage regulator can fail and will cause your battery to charge at much higher voltage than it's supposed to. It's supposed to be between 14-15 volts. If the regulator fails, you can see voltage of 20 volts or more. This can also cause damage to your starter generator. The new OEM reducers have much larger brushes than the old ones or the aftermarket ones. I highly recommend them. That's why I quit selling the aftermarket starter generators.

Re: Club Car DS gas generator failure
Yes the voltage regulator has been changed due to a over charging condition, I think the first generator might have fried it, but not sure when it went bad. this last generator only lasted a few hours of run time. But was run with the bad regulator, it was whining on deceleration. new regulator cured that noise, and gen only lasted a short time after that repair.

Re: Club Car DS gas generator failure
It may have been damaged by the regulator. It's hard to say. But regardless, the quality of the aftermarket ones is only a fraction of the OEM.
