Default 80 EZGO runs good reverse not forward

80 EZGO with a robins engine accelerates and has good speed in reverse but forward slow acceleration and jerky not as fast.

There are two possibilities the first is pleasant and the second, not so (but not as likely)

The first is that your timing is off. The 2PG is designed to run at 20 degrees before TDC. Yes I know sounds unbelievable but trust me on this. So if your timing ring has slipped it is possible that in reverse you are at, say, 10 degrees before TDC which would mean that in forward you were at 30 degrees. I would suggest that you pull out your points clean everything up and reset the timing according to the manual. If you need it I think I have a points based ignition setup instruction that I can post for you.

If that does not work then the second part involves the crankshaft seals. What happens is that the car spends most of it's life in forward and this is how the seals wear. When you reverse the direction the seals snug up a little and seal the crankcase which results in improved fuel delivery (and here I am talking about crankcase to cylinder transfer). Now before you go down the road of replacing the seals, which has been known to drive strong men to tears, you can test the rear seal by jacking up the cart and with a friend holding the throttle, spray some WD40 around the rear seal, behind the clutch. If the engine speed or sound changes you are on the right track. Sadly there is no way to test the front seal.
I suggest that you try the timing and report back
Bon chance mon amis.
