Default Clutch questions, wear, etc.

Working on this 93 carryall that seems to be similar to a DS? Has the single kawasaki in it. Still can't get a good idle with it but thats another story. So I am looking at the clutches and there is a groove worn in the top of the primary, the belt will not go quite to the top. The secondary it does not go to the bottom. Also the engine looks a little crooked and belt is loose, I pried on it and think the rubber mounts could be replaced to get it right again...its not off that far but not straight with the trans.

So do the clutches need to be replaced, or at least the primary? Are there larger diameter clutches that fit? They are talking about lifting it but don't want a key start even if they do swap engines, so I need to keep the belt pulley. I also read about clutch machining but this might be too thin to machine.

Default Re: Clutch questions, wear, etc.

the motor may just need aligned to the transmission if it is a 93.

my simple rule of thumb. if the clutches look worn, they probably are.

also check the belt for width wear. they seem to go fast and loose performance.

although worn clutches work out fine for most people, i replace them on my carts. for others, i just point it out. there is not a swap that i know of for a stock engine. that is the same engine as in a ds. if it is a 350, still the same just a bit bigger.

Thanks for the comments, yes the sheave face is not straight definitely a groove. I'm thinking lifted its not going to work well, pretty sure they want to lift it. Plan on getting a new belt, it looked around an inch didn't have a rule handy but inside of it was cracked.

So do I just loosen the mounts and move it? That is too easy. I figured it only had one place to be.

I don't know what engine will have to find out how to ID them, but its not a twin and the carb is pretty small. Had that all apart to clean and sealed the spacer on thinking it had an air leak. I'll have to check the valve lash next and compression. Its not very powerful feels a lot like the typical stock cart ~10hp. It has a hard time spinning the 18" knobs on it. Did hit the rev limit with it last weekend. All I know about them is if its a OHV it should be a Kawasaki in a CC.

It looked to me like a clone would drop right in there, its about the same size and everything. For $300 double the power is quite a deal, I put a clone in his other cart last summer going to do mine soon.
