Default worth it?

A mid 80's ez go in good shape with lift/new tires and new batteries for 1200 bucks? I figure the lift, tires and batteries are worth 1000 but am I getting into a can of worms by buying a cart this old? How much will it take to get a little more speed from it? It seemed to have alot of torque but top speed was kinda slow.
Thanks
Lee
