Default Starts sometimes and then nothing!

I have a Yamaha G2 that will run just fine for a while but after stopping it sometimes will be completely dead. If I place jumper cables on it or a charger it will fire off! What could this problem be?

Your engine has like 150 to 175 lbs of compression. A weak battery or bad/worn out starter generator brushes can cause that. I allway's check the battery and battery connectins first. Remove and clean the battery cables and post down to "bright lead". Put your volt meter on the battery, with the car in nuetral, step on the accelerator pedal and if the battery drops below 10 volts...you will have a hesitation or it will not start at all. That's the first thing to do, let us know what happens with that test.

OK I did the test and did not have any drop in voltage. I started with 12.41 and it remained the same throughout pressing the pedal. It did try to start but I didn't have the chock pulled so it didn't and then it was dead again. I put the charger on it and it after a few pushed from the pedal it fired off and ran fine!

I did the test with checking the voltage while pressing the gas pedal and there was no amount of drop in voltage to speak of. It tried to fire off while I was doing the test but did not and then wouldn't turn over at all. I put a charger to it and it fired off after a few pushes in the on the pedal.

Take a voltage reading at the solenoid when the issue occurs while pushing the pedal, if you have 12v on one small terminal and a good ground on the other then tap the solenoid, if it turns over you have a sticking solenoid.
If you do not get 12v or have a good ground then you need to trace the open side to the fault.
Download the wiring diagram from the stickies to help you.

First check the battery posts, they can act that way. Then check all the wires and cables for bad connections the ground cable by the engine can also do this. Make sure the generator belt is not slipping on the gen pulley when starting. Could also be a bad pedal switch if it works at times and not others. If you hear the click the solenoid makes then the pedal switch is good. If you don't its the switch or bad battery/cable connection. I've had many problems with the battery clamps on mine, it just goes dead and will start again later. Finally had to file them out clean.

OK I have replaced the solenoid twice, replaced the starter generator with a new one, changed out the fuel filter, cleaned the carburetor and I am still having issues with this G2. If I lift the seat up and start the cart it runs and sounds great. If I lower the seat and try to start it, it is sometimes completely dead, and if I raise the seat it will sometimes fire right off but sometimes it won't and if I tap the solenoid it will fire off. When I eventually get it running and can make go forward, it runs well for a little while but when I try to give it more gas it runs horrible. It will then begin to sputter and back fire and eventually die. I am thinking that maybe it is the ignitor but I have no way of verifying this! Does anyone have any suggestions about this problem?? Please help if possible!! It is driving me crazy!
