Default no spark and bad rev limiter

I've been reading as much as possible on my spark issue, and I'm at a stand still. I have a 2001 with the 290 motor, my spark was not consistent then none at all.
I located the rev limiter and cut the brown( ground wire).
Instant spark, it would start right up and idle no problem. Drove it out of garage and into the street maybe three houses down and it died.
No spark, I have let it sit overnight and still no spark? Any and all help is appreciated.
Thank you,
Shawn

Sounds as though your coil is bad Shawn. No real way to test it as I'm sure you have seen if you have been through the search facility on this site. Odd that it went out after eliminating the limiter but in my experience the limiters rarely give problems whereas coils are notoriously finicky.
