Default Starter Belt

I'm having trouble putting a starter belt on a 1991 Club Car DS. My first cart, my first time doing any work on one... If it is put on the wrong side up..or even too loose..would the cart even turn over? All i'm getting is the wheel turning where the starter belt goes...thanks for any help.

Geez... I'm on here 3 times a day, and didn't see your post, for that I'm sorry!

But to get things in order... do you understand that if the belt is on "upside down" (V side up),
that it just doesn't/won't work that way?
and the starter/generator is adjustable/moveable in order to adjust the belt tension, is that the info you were asking for?
and... did you get it figured out?

When a "V" type belt.(hence the name V-belt), starts trying to turn over in the pulley grooves it is usually a sign of one or more of the belt's cord are broken or at least stretched. One very common cause of this is people forcing or prying with a screwdriver to get a belt on a pulley with the adjuster not loosened enough, It doesn't always show up immediately, but may show up later to cause problems. Belts should always be put on with the adjuster slackened enough to go on easy. The golf car has a pretty weak starter system at best. I can speak from an 8 year experience trying to keep a bunch of them going at the local golf course. Thankfully the player carts were electric. The work carts were all gas. The belt when installed on these will be a pain to get at it. After installing and running it for a little while it will start to squeal and take a few seconds to start turning the engine. That is normal and just requires tightening the adjustment.

One thing people often overlook or maybe just simply ignore is the fact that the sides of the pulley wear and will not grip well. The "V " belt pulls from it's contact with the sides and not from the bottom. Inspect that also when you have a belt off.
