Default Charger voltage

Charging my brand new trojan batteries today for the first time. Charger is putting out 60 volts. 80% light came on but charger never shut off. It got all the way to 54volts and i got nervous and disconnected it. Green light never came on to signify full charge. Should i have let it go further or is charger bad?

Could have taken as much as 16 or more hours to reach full charge. My charger floats my battery at 53.1 volts and I'm sure that it hits at least 60 odd volts during the charge..... Plug it back in and let it finish its work....
