Any Tomberlin Emerge Owners
Hi forum! I own a 2012 Tomberlin Emerge E-2. I purchased it new list for $9,200 and added $2600 worth of upgrades. Total investment a little over $12,000. I just had it serviced today and it cost $1500.00 I needed new batteries and the motor and brushes were pulled and cleaned.
I just don't use it enough. The dealer offered me $5,000.00 What would be a fair market price? |

Re: Any Tomberlin Emerge Owners
Sorry I saw your posting so late. I think you should challenge your dealer as it appears you are getting less than good answers. Why sell the cart now? you have new batteries and evidently it is low miles, etc. Also, with proper battery care "limited use" is not a problem. The Tomberlin on-board charger is a great piece of equipment. Leave the charger hooked up 24/7 and check the water level in the batteries at least once every 3/4 weeks. I don't know your options but you paid top $$for the 2012. I bought mine for $7,200 plus options. I wouldn't dream of selling it for $5,000. Tomberlin has received some bad press due to a contract problem followed by a Chapter 11. All is now resolved and they have been purchased by Columbia ParCar. Some dealers jumped ship and bad mouthed the product. My dealer kept all owners up to speed, maintained service and warranty coverage and still handles Tomberlin.. The Tomberlin is a great cart and it is an insult for your dealer to offer you $5,000 on your 2012. Selling it now is a mistake if you have any use for a street legal 25MPH cart. I have never heard of having to "clean the brushes" on the motor due to lack of use. . I suggest you look for another dealer.

Re: Any Tomberlin Emerge Owners
The brushes on a tomberlin and others will get stuck in the holders and cause the cart to shudder at low speed. In severe cases and the cart still being driven, can ruin the armature. The motors are a weak link in the cart. If some of you want a tomberlin here in my area, which has the most tomberlins sold, you can pick one up for 3500 bucks. many are for sale

Re: Any Tomberlin Emerge Owners
I work where the largest amount of tomberlins have been sold. I have worked on hundreds of tomberlins. (650 have been sold in my area, according to tomberlin)
Let me know how many you want as im usually the first one to know when a cart is up for sale. Its bad when the cart sits, this is when the brushes will get stuck. Just went to one yesterday that sat for a month. Pull the motor, clearance the brushes and install. That's all that's required. If driven while it is skipping, can cause the armature to come apart. Issue is the Advanced D/C motor that is installed in these units are made in china. The armature manufacturing process is not done correctly there and come apart. Best thing to do is have the armature rewound here in the US and problem will be cured. I have had armatures come apart in as little as 750 miles. Don't fall for the contract dispute talk. The company was poorly run at the top. No parts coming in for 6 months and they were robbing parts off of new carts to get customers carts running, I know having had a 4 hour dinner with Mike Tomberlin himself. |

Re: Any Tomberlin Emerge Owners
Golf Cart Guy--The easy way out here would be to just ignore the continuation of your attempt to discredit the Tomberlin Golf Cart. A simple 30 minute research dispels your latest comments about Tomberlin's use of the Advanced motors. (Advanced Motor Designs of Syracuse New York). If you are aware you failed to recognize that Advance motors are also used by Club Car, EZ-Go Yamaha, Fairplay and others. Every major golf cart motor supplier offers the Advanced motor as replacement options (Buggies Unlimited for one)Advanced manufactures motors for many domestic and Industrial uses in the US. The scare tactic of "It's made in China" doesn't stand up as Several US firms have their own plants based in China. Also it is usual for companies to have some components built in China for final assembly in the US.(You might check every "American Made" electrical product you use every day.) As an attorney it was easy for me to research the legal issues of Tomberlins law suit that led to the filing of the Chapter 11. During this period of time our area dealer stayed the course even without having had "a four hour dinner with Mike Tomberlin". Your continued harangue of Tomberlin takes a lot of your time that could be better spent by going to all those owners you claimed to have sold Tomberlin's to and referring them to a dealer that will stand by the product. Your credibility factor is in dire need of improvement. I will continue to challenge your misleading Tomberlin comments. Send me a PM and I will be very willing to exchange my name address and cell number at any time.

Re: Any Tomberlin Emerge Owners
Im not a hobbiest that works on golf cars, I do it for a living. Tomberlins have more issues than a lot of cars, which that is all I am saying.
I have sent the failed motors to a motor specialist, who it is in there determination that the failure is caused by poor quality. Don't see that in Club cars, Ezgos etc. I speak from facts as I am out there everyday seeing and fixing all carts. |

Re: Any Tomberlin Emerge Owners
I worked on a Tomberlin dune buggy for over a year trying to get it running reliably. No factory/dealer support, and no parts stream. The buggy was eventually scrapped for the metal. Tomberlin = crap. I don't care WHO owns them.

Re: Any Tomberlin Emerge Owners
My dealership also used to be a Tomberlin dealer...We are one that you spoke of that had to eventually rob parts off of new units because it was getting to difficult to get from Tomberlin...I now have two new half-carts rotting in my back lot and one E-merge in my rental fleet waiting for repair due to...you guessed it, a motor shuttering problem. We no longer carry Tomberlin obviously and when you get one functioning properly they are awesome to drive, but I dont even take them in for repair anymore.
