Then I will still stand back!!!! I guess it is possible the wires inside were connected to the wrong polarity in your case. I will followup when it arrives to let you all know if I find anything. |

Re: Reducer blew up!
I know its made in china, but I have the Madjax 30 Amp, 36 or 48 Volt to 12 Volt Power Converter. I have used these in a few friends carts and no issues to date. They are running stereos with powered subs, extra lighting, air horns, charging ports, all kinds of extras.

Sorry you got burned. Some of that really cheap Chinese stuff is downright dangerous. Cheaper is rarely better, it's just cheaper. Site sponsors are always a great value for your dollars.

Re: Reducer blew up!
There is a gigantic difference in the quality level of a product that is merely manufactured in China versus one that is designed and manufactured in China. Left to their own devices, those people could burn down a country with some of their so called products.

The DPI folks make a high efficiency line of reducers here in the US:

Re: Reducer blew up!
I put a 10 amp on mine for LED lights, gps charger power plug ( cig lighter jack)
So far so good 48/12 reducer Link Remember they draw a little current 24/7 with lights off. Powered mine off key switch Light switch can switch the 48 volt power side, stops not in use current draw. |

Re: Reducer blew up!
Joel,
I received the voltage reducer yesterday and installed it today. I had no problems at all with this $17.50, free shipping, made in China, voltage reducer. I watched a youtube video which said to be careful not to let the secondary wires touch together when you hook to the 48V primary. And it warned there will be a spark when connecting the primary. Everything went as described and I am very pleased with the end result. I also installed a $45.00 halogen front, led rear light kit which was a "fun" install! Today I received the Multi voltage strobe light, $29.00, which connects directly to the batteries through a [customer supplied] double pole, single throw toggle switch. As I said, I am a happy camper with the end results....now to go to work on the multi step pot issue. But that's for another thread! |
