Default Resale value

I've been looking at used carts and it seems the prices are all over the place. Is there a bluebook for golf carts?
Lets say a guy picks up an old cart for cheap and buys a lift, tires, maybe repower and paint if needed. Could he expect to recover his money? Does the age of the cart make a big difference if its gonna look like new anyway? I'm not talking about making a living building carts but it would be nice to have at least one hobby that didn't suck my wallet dry.

IMO

It depends...
How much $$ you put into it, do yourself, and how much a person is willing to spend, buying it from you!

If I were to try to sell my gas cart tommorrow, I'd ask for what I have into it!
It would have to be ONE special buyer (at least, around here) to buy it for $9700.00!

Same with my 48V... $2800.00 just in accessories, and now it needs batteries... a tough sell to recoup my money!

although... If you check some of our sponsors builds...
Some of they're carts are REALLY built, and they sell them!

It's one of the coolest hobbies I've ever had, But It's just for me...
and it's worth it when it "sucks my wallet dry!"

I agree with Don The market is poor and you will be buying parts retail. Resale wise invest in the newest cart you can find in your budget. In my experience it is hard to get the money back for lifts and tires ..... Avoid the oddball makes and colors. Good luck.

You can't look at a golf cart project as an investment ...... can you get your $$$ out of it? Yes. Can you get paid for your time? NO. That's where it becomes a hobby and not a business....

IMHO....

Thanks for the replies. I take it there is no "blue book". I guess I just need to follow want ads and ebay to get an idea of cart values.

Your local craigslist can be a big help......Watch for what disappears..... not what is on there for a long time

Also remember ,
generally spring and early summer is the best time to Buy and SELL, more stuff moving
and a lot of Course leases expiring.
Things fall off in the FALL, and DIE in the WINTER
