gas fumes from the rear

Sorry if this has been visited, but much info here...
I have a '95 club car with rear bench seat, that i picked up.
It's very obvious that when setting on the back seat, the engine fumes are VERY strong. I can not see any visible signs of an exhaust leak. I've been told that the cart was designed to carry clubs on the rear....duh....but, what are folks doing to route the fume away from rear passengers?
Thx for any info, prior to me rigging up something stupid...
