Default what's the trick

I'm trying to install a dash cover.
I marked out all the holes pre-drilled them and still keep breaking them off while installing. I'm using stainless steel screws.

Maybe try predrilling a little bigger hole? The difference in diameter between the drill and the screw should only be the threads...hope that makes sense
