Re: 83 Club Car project
Was able to use pic for avatar. Not too bad for a deer feeder and the gas it cost me to go pick it up, huh?

Re: 83 Club Car project
First things first. See how bad those batteries really are. Get all the lube up to date. Check the rest of the electrical. Make a "need" list, then a "want" list. Turn wallet upside down.
Welcome to the insanity. . |

Oh snap! I can post pics now!
Started taking it apart today. Batteries are definitely toast as are most of the cables. Here's the progress made today. |

Re: 83 Club Car project
Dude, that is some vintage DS right there! Old style steering, old style charge port and FNR also. Can you post a pic of the motor and transaxle? Transaxle might be the old Terrell unit.

Will post pics tomorrow. Hopefully the transaxle y'all are talking about is a good thing? |

Re: 83 Club Car project
Well, having an older transaxle would mean that a motor swap would be more difficult, as the older motors that bolt to the older transaxles aren't readily available. PQ could probably do something with the old motor though if you decide to go the upgrade route.
Also, to answer your earlier question on the resistor system: the five solenoid system is really reliable, but you will be asking a lot of the coils if you plan to put on a rear seat and haul 4 people regularly or if you lift it and go with larger tires. If you're staying stock for a cruiser, the solenoid system will be reliable for you, especially on such an old cart. To go crazy with the speed upgrades and whatnot it would really be best if the cart had the newer rack and pinion instead of the old Ross Box it currently has. |
