Default 2 chargers on the same circuit

Is this possible. Garage only has one circuit. I can use different outlets. Just wasn’t sure if both chargers are active if the circuit can withstand the load.

I guess i could always make sure one is in a “maintain” mode while the other is charging.

Thanks,
Steve

A charger is going to pull roughly just under 10 amps. Most home circuits are 15-20. If they are both plugged in and charging your going to trip a breaker. Time to add a circuit or 2.

Yep I would add one. Usually after a few minutes you’ll trip a breaker or worse, overheat the circuit and cause a fire hazard.

Thanks all. This isn’t my garage, it’s a rental garage in our condo complex at the lake. Not sure I have the option to add a circuit. Would a low amperage charger(5-6 amps) work? My carts get used on the weekend then sit plugged in all week(plenty of time to charge with a low amp charger).

Those low amperage chargers are bad for the batteries for many reasons. I think you’d probably be better off getting a good heavy gauge extension cord and running it from another circuit.

The garage is isolated from our house. The outlet I use is a GFCI. I’ll trip it and see if the other outlets are dead too. If I find one this is not, it’s on another circuit, right?

does your condo have a maintenance dept ? you can ask someone there how the garage is wired. It most likely has a dedicated circuit per unit.

I could certainly ask. The garages are owned by a 3rd party though. I’ll get something figured out. I wouldn’t be surprised if it was one circuit per several units.

Hard to say. GFCIs are often isolated.

I would think that electrical code would require separate circuits per unit.
