ScottyB Is the MZJ400A any better than the SW180? I do not mind paying more for the MZJ if it is the better. I am looking to convert to a 48 volt cart as soon as I replace the batteries in March or April.

JohnnieB this is exactly what mine looks like. I will start going over the connections and see if something is loose or not correct. What is your opinion on the changing of my solenoid?

I've had the MZJ on my 2000 cart for ~10 years. You can run it on 36v now and it is good on 48v also when you go that way later. It is what I did. I think the SW180 is voltage specific.

The stock solenoid is only rated at 80A, which is marginal for a stock controller, and should have been replaced when the AXE controller was installed.

The attached pictures show what the fixed and movable contacts in your stock solenoid probably look like.

If you're thinking about going to 48V, install a MZJ400 solenoid. It works at 36V, 42V and 48V, so you can run 36V now and up the pack voltage later without having to replace the solenoid, which will save you a few dollars when you upgrade.

I am going with the mzj and the lugs. Do you think this could be what is causing my problem? havent had the time to really get into it anymore than i did yesterday.

What diode and resistor should i order? Should I just order the option on carts unlimited that has both?

Be aware the MZJ has a wide mount pattern which will require modification of the solenoid or the old AXE control and it requires 3/8ths cable lugs which you probably do not have now. 2 reasons why I suggested the SW180 as a bolt on replacement with over 2Xs the capacity of the solenoid you have been using.

I think I posted something about you checking the F&R contacts?
Have you done that?

Scotty

I just went out and removed the f and r switch and it looks like you are correct. This is what I found. Do you know what could have caused this or where I should look? This is on the 9 oclock position which i am sure you already know. Thank You for your help. Chris

This could be part of the problem.

Cart was not operational when I loosened it. It had become really difficult to shift. In order to try the solenoid I wanted to switch from fwd and reverse and had no choice but to break it free barely but enough for it to move with a little force.

Scotty if you have had time to look at the picture i posted let me know what your opinion is. I am leaning towards the sw180 solely because you are correct in me not having 3/8 lugs. I guess I could take the wires off and head to a machine shop I know and get the lugs put on if the needed modification for the mzj is not too much. I would prefer to not have to buy the 36 volt sw180 now and then turn around and buy the 48 volt sw 180 in a couple months though. Not sure if you could send me a link where i could just put everything in a cart and check out but that would be great. Otherwise just tell me what I need as far as solenoid and parts and I will go from there.
