Was GOING to clean the motor...
So I decided to take the motor off and give it a good douching figuring I could get some of its original power back... first problem the A1 bolt just broke right off...then I get it apart and see this... guess I'm tossing this. Anyway to NOT need to spend $600 on a new one? Any good deals on a used one maybe? No way am I going to bother with this hunk of crap motor anymore...

Re: Was GOING to clean the motor...
Sorry I guess I meant if there was a place or website that just sold them used or remanufactured and I could decide from a list. Anything would be an upgrade from current.

OR you could send it to PLUM QUICK and have it rebuilt/upgraded. and would cost about half as much as a new motor.

Nuke it depends on how bad it is. I sent one to them a while back and they told me it was toast. It was worth the shipping to find that out but they all can’t be saved.

Re: Was GOING to clean the motor...
So I had the same thought. Before I do that though, I decided to spend the $60 on some new brushes because the bolts were toast (one clean twisted in 2), $9 on 2 new square insulators, $15 on a new bearing and $zero to give it all a good brushing to shine it all up and spray the main body black. I'll keep ya posted if and how it runs once i get it back together and replaced that one battery only giving me 5.8v. I'm hoping this will give it some of its former power back. I noticed the winding coils are not that big on this either. We'll see how it goes. Best case I can use it for a bit longer and send for a PQ upgrade.

Re: Was GOING to clean the motor...
May have been a good call. Back in old days when most all variable speed electric motors were DC (before A/C ASD/VFD) I saw some really really bad stuff come out of coal mines and foundries etc. that were reconditioned and brought back to life.
Everytime one was repaired it had a job number stenciled into it and it was not uncommon to see as many as 5 or 6 or more different numbers stenciled into a motor. You could always use the job number to look back at the old job cards and see exactly what had been done to the motor (rewind, cleanup, replace bearing, brushes, etc) and when (some of these lived for decades). One of the big risks I recall was shorting out the bars on the commutator when cleaning and undercutting. |
