Default Battery Charger

I just ran into a guy that had one of these 36V 5amp chargers. He said it would not run very long before running down. I checked the battery voltage and it was 36 volts. It didn't matter whether the charger was hooked up or not. I suspect that this charger was reaching it's limit and may never fully charge the batteries. Is this correct?

36v is not charged and 36v with charger on will not charge the batteries. 36.3volts equals 50% state of charge.

If voltage is not changing with charger plugged in, then either charger is not working (most likely scenario) or is putting out the exact voltage of the battery pack. No matter how long you charger, the batteries will never go above the voltage the charger is putting out.

IF he has a $69 charger from ebay (or anywhere), that is likely the problem.

The charger is the problem. That low amperage unit is not charging the batteries correctly. Golf cart batteries need around 20 amps to properly charge.
