4 should be fine, but I'd check with ScottyB what the price difference is. With a stock controller you won't notice a difference but if you later upgrade the controller, 2 will serve you well.
If your solenoid still gets hot, I can sell you my 36 volt HD one I got from ScottyB. As I stated, with stock controller and stock tires, I managed to melt two. Running bigger tires will push your controller harder than with stock tires, and if you also have a rear seat or carry heavy loads up steep hills, it is more than a stock solenoid can handle, especially if you don't let it cool down. Once the plastic that holds the contacts starts melting, the contacts won't make as good a contact, and more resistance equals more heat, causing a positive feedback loop. |
