The Reed switch will make the cart seem dead if it is not happy. If your reverse alarm is suddenly not working there's a real good chance the Reed switch has failed.

There are three electrical circuits in an electric golf cart, some have four.
Charging circuit, High Current circuit and Solenoid Activation circuit. Some carts have lights and/or radios Etc, so the Accessory circuit is the fourth.

At most, the only wiring shared by these circuits are the interconnecting cables within the battery pack. Since you were able to measure battery pack voltage (37.6V) those cables are intact. They may not meet the needs of the High Current circuit, but they should suffice for solenoid activation and battery charging.

To check Reed switch, Keyswitch and Pedal switch are in series and all three must be closed to activate the solenoid. The source for the solenoid activation voltage is the positive terminal in the charging receptacle, and that is an easy place to check, so let's do it first.

Connect your voltmeter's negative test lead to the battery pack's main negative terminal as shown in first picture. Separate the in-line connector between the small wire coming out of the charge receptacle small wire going into the wiring harness. It should read full battery pack voltage.

Let us know what you find and we will go from there.

When I connect the positive of my volt meter to the small white wire coming out of the charge receptacle and the negative of my volt meter to the main battery negative it reads 0 volts.

Then your reed switch is blown. Using JohnnieB's picture as a reference, connect the small wire to the big white wire to bypass the switch. Should get you running again. To remember to unplug the charger before driving the cart, do as suggested and run the charger cord through the steering wheel while charging, so it's in your way until you unplug it.....

Could a bad reed switch affect reverse only?

Welcome to BGW!

No, a bad reed switch kills both directions.

Start a new thread and include the drive type (Series, DCS or PDS) and we'll help you troubleshoot it.

Also include whether solenoid clicks in both directions.
