Starter/Generator
Has anybody had a starter fail? I'm working on a 96 DS and the starter does not have enough power to turn the motor a full revolution. The battery is fully charged.

Re: Starter/Generator
My barrery tested good with the voltmeter but would not start it. new battery put in and still working good 2 months later. maybe try a known good battery before buying new. that's what i did.

Agreed with Al. We had this issue with my in-laws '05 Club Car. Battery appeared to be fully charged according to the meter but after swapping it out with another battery, we found that the battery was in fact bad.

Re: Starter/Generator
What do you mean "the battery is fully charged"? FYI - A fully charged battery reads 12.6-12.8 V, not 12 V. A battery reading 12 V is only about 40% charged.
Get the battery tested with a load test - any gas station or battery place will do that for free (because they want to sell you a new one). Charge it up fully before you bring it to be tested, or you can buy one of those things, from Harbor Freight for instance, real cheap, to have handy whenever you want to check a battery. . |

Re: Starter/Generator
My battery actually tested 13.2V but as soon as it had a load - nothing.

Re: Starter/Generator
That's why you need a load test. You may have a "surface charge" but the battery actually has very little capacity.

Re: Starter/Generator
Brushes were past the wear indicator. Replaced the brushes and it's good to go.
