Re: Sway control
Konrad when in my shop I also use the V blocks and my shop press from Harbor Freight to do spring work. I wanted to make some adjustments to my springs away from the shop so I modified the jig that I use to compress the spring on the driven clutch. I turned the 3” angle 90 deg and drilled two new ½” holes for some all thread, then cut a slot in the angle to hold the shock. I made two spring compressors out of ½” rigid pipe with an insert drilled out to fit the 1/2” all thread. I have used it several times and it works. I have a portable vice and mounting the jig in it works for me. Here are some pictures of the spring jig. Good Luck.

Re: Sway control
The press method that I used is a little scary as those springs have a lot of tension on them when you put the spacer underneath. I told my son in law who was helping me, that if the shock jumped out of the press and hit me in the gonads that he was to just pick the hammer up and hit me in the head as I'm sure I would have wished that I was dead. I don't recommend this method to anyone.
