Re: Here's My G8 Project
Hey, I remember seeing a thread where someone replaced the airbox with a K&N filter and then drilled out the jets in the carb. I've tried to find it with searches, but I can't seem to find it again. It might be buried in the Yamaha G8 Club Thread....all 15,000 posts of it! LOL.
Do you have any thoughts or concerns about that kind of mod to the G8 engine? Thanks, Todd |

Re: Here's My G8 Project
Plowman has the best set up that I know of. I have one and it made quite abit of a difference!! And, I had a strong running G8, with a umax spring!! But its even better now!!
Get it running perfect stock, you will need all the parts you buy, when adding a Plowmans kit!! |

Re: Here's My G8 Project
Awesome insight. Thanks Mike.
I'll keep tweaking and get a new airbox lid as we discussed in the PM. Then, I'll order the Plowman's Performance Package when I'm ready. Thanks for guidance. R/Todd |

Re: Here's My G8 Project
Well, I got home from work late on Thurs after being gone for 4 days. On Fri I jumped in the cart and excitedly headed to the mailboxes (about a 1/2 mile away) to see if my voltage regulator that I ordered was there (running on battery power only).
Sure enough, it was. So, I lifted the seat, stuck the connector on it, put the seat back down and jumped in. When I hit the pedal......SNAP!!!! What the frick!!! Nothing! No power. Well, it didn't take long to figure out that I snapped the fuse. Or, rather, the new V/R snapped the fuse! HORSEHOCKEY!! Well, it was going to be a mile walk to the shop and back to get a fuse (what was I thinking....no tools or spare fuses in the cart???) Thank you VERY MUCH to the person that dropped that paper clip outside the mailboxes. I McGyvered that paper clip into the fuse holder and limped my way back to the shop. Of course, it was easy to replace the fuse. But, what's up with the new V/R?? I got online and Googled the only number printed on the box for the V/R and found out that it was really a voltage rectifier/regulator for a Yamaha mini-bike with a magneto ignition. Crap. To my amazement, I filled out a return/refund request with the vendor on eBay and within an hour I had a refund!! Cool!! Now, I still have to find a replacement. You know, $80 seems like a lot of money for this little thing!! Not as bad as the ignitors for a G8, but cripes almighty!! Anyone found a less expensive option for a 4 wire voltage regulator for these G8 carts? Uff Dah!!! R/Todd |

Re: Here's My G8 Project
Todd, you need to get parts from one of the site sponsors or (you know who)!! They will make sure you get the right stuff!!
My opinion of ebay or amazon and all the rest is, "those guys sell second rate stuff". |

Re: Here's My G8 Project
I had issue with my G9 airbox, wrapped a bungie cord around it a couple times to get it sealed until I bought new straps for it. Finally got tired of it and wanted to mod it so I removed the silencer and it ran terrible, I hogged out the main jet until it ran well and never had a problem with it again plus it started great in the summer with no choke. I later removed the baffles in there but that made no difference so left them in there to remove dust/leaves. I used a torch tip cleaner to file the jet out, if you take it loose and install hand tight you can remove the jet in the cart repeatedly and jet it. Now I have a jet drill kit they are cheap too. It is slightly noisier. Cart now has a clone engine with an airbox off a car that is piped to the front cowl, it is pretty dusty at times where I run and the filters are $7. Never had a problem with the SS VR in our G9s can't help you there, the old metal can type used in G2 you can adjust.

Re: Here's My G8 Project
I got these, dirt cheap but they go right through a brass jet like nothing using the little pin vice that comes with. Make sure they have the sizes you want. There are jet to drill size charts online.
I usually save up until I get $35 at amazon for free ship, though I'm mad at them right now for starting MI sales tax lol. http://amzn.com/B000VNPRNQ |
