Default Re: 1995 yamaha g14 looking for speed and power( just better then stock)

Top speed is all dependent upon engine rpm and tire size. The larger your tires, the greater your top speed potential. Most stock carts on stock sized tires will go around 22-25 mph. Plenty fast for most. With larger tires you can get to 25-30 mph. With larger tires, the acceleration will be slower.

Acceleration is dependent on power/torque and gear ratios. Most guys with stock engines will use a high performance secondary clutch, spring, and belt to boost acceleration, hill climbing power, and pulling power. The clutch kit is like adding a lower gear, it will pull harder while accelerating. This will not raise your top speed, sometimes will lower it a bit. Some will use a better exhaust and air filter then jet the carb. Going this route is not a big power increase of any kind. It's just a way to gain back what you lost with the big tires, maybe a small increase beyond.

Your engine in stock form is probably about 8-10 hp and the torque maybe in the 13 lb ft range. Just a guess. Speed tricks like carb jets, high flow air filter, high flow exhaust can bump those numbers up, but not real significantly. Real power is made with adding compression, adding displacement, increasing flow efficiency, and adding fuel/air.

If you want more power/speed.....the kind you can really feel....I'm going to say the only way to do that efficiently is to install a bigger engine. The lowest cost way is a clone engine swap like the Vegas Carts 460 kit. If you want big torque, the kind that puts you in your seat, you'll want a Vtwin engine like a Vanguard kit from CPP. Either way, the power increase is excellent.
